Tonight at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas is the 2016 opener for the Houston Dash. They will be facing the Chicago Red Stars at 7:30 p.m. This will be the start of the third season for the Dash. The head coach, Randy Waldrum has one goal for the girls this year, to get to the PLAYOFFS! The Dash, along with Carli Lloyd, FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year, will be aiming for their first playoff berth since they started three years ago. Last year they fell short of making the playoffs by six points. So, the Dash want to make sure this year they have plenty of wins to make the playoffs. Let’s cheer the Dash on to have a great first game.
The first attempt to score a goal was by the Dash’s #3 Rachel Daley which went just above the goal. The Dash have really gone after the ball the start of the game. In the 13th minute the Chicago Red Stars, #23 Christen Press scored the first goal, making the score Red Stars 1 and the Dash 0. In the 21st minute, the Dash, #3 Rachel Daley, scored the first goal for her team, tying the score, Dash 1 and Red Stars 1. The Dash have really hustled the first half, they seem to be controlling the ball very well. The defense is very alert and keeping the Red Stars at bay.
The second half started with the Red Stars having control of the ball first, but it wasn’t long before the Dash stole the ball. In the 51st minute the Dash turned around, by scoring another goal. Carlie Lloyd scored with a head but into the net, with the assistance of #3 Rachel Daley. No more then 3 minutes went by when in the 54th minute, Kealia Ohai assisted #11 Janine Beckie to score another goooooal!!!!! This making the score Dash 3 and Red Stars 1. In the 61st minute a yellow card was issued to Red Stars #4 Alyssa Mautz for a technical foul. In the 63rd minute the Red Stars had a substitution, #15 Courtney Raetzman on for #2 Jen Hoy out. In the 71st minute the Dash had a substitution, #9 Chioma Ubogagu in for #11 Janine Beckie off. The game became a little bit more physical toward the bottom of the second half, the Red Stars #16 Samantha Johnson was issued a yellow card in the 76st minute of the game for a technical foul. The Dash made another substitution in the 81st minute, #22 Stephanie Ochs in for # 7 Kealia Ochs off. The Red Stars had two substitutions in the 83rd minute #14 Sarah Gorden in for #4 Alyssa Mautz out and #12 Cara Walls in for #20 Sofia Huerta out. In the 88th minute the Dash had their last substitution #22 Caity Heap in for #17 Andressa.
