Tonight at BBVA Compass Stadium the Houston Dynamo take on FC Dallas in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals. Tonight’s game will be a single-elimination in the Texas Derby edition and the winner will advance to the semifinals against the winner of the Seattle Sounders FC and the LA Galaxy, which also be playing tonight in Los Angeles. With a win tonight, the Dynamo would reach the semifinals for the first time since 2009 and third time overall, matching the club’s best result in the competition. The Dynamo have previously eliminated FC Dallas in the quarterfinals in a home game in 2006 , score Dynamo 3 and FC Dallas 0.
The Dynamo was issued a penalty kick in the 15th minute of the game, as FC Dallas fouled in the first half . The Dynamo’s #19 Mauro Manotas was issued a yellow card in the 22nd minute of the game. The referee handed a lot of warnings to the players of the Dynamo team, the fans did not agree as you could here the boo’s throughout the stadium. Due to the heat/temperature in the stadium, the referee called a cooling break for the players up to 2 minutes, the time will be added to the end of the first half. The first half stayed scoreless, Dynamo 0 and FC Dallas 0.
The second half begins with the Dynamo kicking off first but FC Dallas quickly stole the ball and tried for a goal but went over the goal bar. Dynamo also got to shoot a ball for a goal but was blocked by their goalie, #18 Chris Seitz. Giles Barnes attempted a goal also, but went over the goal bar. There is a lot of boo’s from the fans not liking the calls the referee is making. The referee for tonight’s game is Nima Saghafi. The FC Dallas team in the 62nd minute made their first substitution #21 Michael Barrios coming out and #12 Ryan Hollingshead coming in. In the 67th minute for the Dynamos their first substitution of the night, #11 Andrew Wenger coming out and #27 Boniek Garcia coming in. In the 71st minute, Dynamo’s #13 Ricardo Clark was issued a yellow card. In the 76th minute a yellow card was issued to FC Dallas #14 Atiba Harris. A cooling break was ordered by the referee in the 78th minute due to the high temperatures in the stadium, up to 3 minutes. The time will be added to the end of the 90th minute. In the 83rd minute Dynamo’s #20 Abdoulie Mansally was issued a yellow card. In the 84th minute the Dynamo makes another substitution #10 Giles Barnes comes out and #14 Alex comes in. The FC Dallas also made a substitution #13 Tesho Akindele coming in and #37 Maximilliano Urruti coming out. In the 90th minute FC Dallas scored #11 Fabian Castillo.
