DYNAMO VS PHILADELPHIA UNION

Today at BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston, Texas the Dynamo take on Philadelphia Union.  They are both coming off wins to advance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.  The Dynamo beat defending and rival Sporting Kansas City 3-1 on Wednesday as Mauro Manotas scored twice.  A win today would improve Houston’s overall record to 4-8-5, and it would be Wade Barrett’s first win as head coach in MLS play.  Dynamo will start Tyler Deric as goalie and Damarcus Beasley will be captain.

Tonight Dynamo celebrate Armed Forces Appreciation Night, honoring the men, women and families that sacrifice to protect and serve our country.  At halftime there will be tributes and will end with fireworks, which is presented by Kroger.

In the first half, 2nd minute of the game Philadelphia’s #15 Joshua Yaro  was issued a yellow card.  Both teams have attempted to score a goal but have been unsuccessful.   In the 22nd minute the Dynamo get a corner kick but fail to get a goal.  In the 28th minute Giles Barnes attempted a corner kick but also was unsuccessful for a goal.  Dynamo received another chance at the corner kick  and no goal.  In the 29th minute #12 Will Bruin head butted the ball on target but was caught by the Philadelphia’s goalie #1 Andre Blake.  It is a very hot night, so a 3 minute water brake in the 31st minute was taken.   The 3 minutes was added as stoppage time at the 45 minute count.

The second half started with the teams looking a little rested after their 15 minute break.  The ball was being handled by Philadelphia when Will Bruin made a run for it was kicked out which lead to a corner kick for the Dynamo with no goal made.  In the 60th minute Dynamo made their first substitution, #12 Will Bruin coming off and #19 Mauro Manotas coming in.   The Philadelphia Union made substitution in the 62nd minute #6 Roland Alberg coming off and # 17 C.J. Sapong coming in and #25 Ilsinho coming off and #22 Leo Fernandes coming in.  In the 69th minute Dynamo made their second substitution, #14 Alex coming off and #8 Cristian Maidana coming in.  In the 84th minute the Dynamo made their last substitution of the night, #10 Giles Barnes out and # 11 Andrew Wenger coming in.  There was a yellow card issued to Philadelphia for a foul in 87th minute.  The last substitution for Philadelphia in the 87th minute #10 Tranquillo Barnetta coming out and #4 Ken Tribbett coming in.  There was 5 minute stoppage added to the second half, so Dynamo  still has a chance to score after so many attempts.

The Dynamo’s #8 Cristian Maidana scored the goal in the last minute of extra time added, this came after the Philadelphia’s #2 Warren Creavalle was issued a yellow card.  This was an exciting win for the Dynamo and Coach Wade Barrett.   Dynamo 1 and Philadelphia Union 0.  The man of the match #8 Cristian Maidana.
