Skeeters play their last game of the series with the Lancaster Barnstormers today. The Skeeters retired the Barnstormers with the first out coming when the pitcher Tim Stauffer reached and stopped the ball to throw to first where Delwyn Young caught for the first out. Then 2, 3, out for the inning. Unfortunately our Skeeters did not do so well as they came up empty handed. Denny Almonte struck out and Devin Russo, Delwyn Young flied out at rt. field for three outs. The second inning the Barnstormers started a little rally when Charlie Cutler singled to right field for first hit of the day. Lance Zawadzki singled to right field to advance Charlie Cutler to second and putting him on first. Then Keith Castillo hit to first where he ground out leaving two on base to end the small rally. Chris Wallace singled to left field to start of the Skeeters for the bottom of the second inning. Johan Limonta singled toward second which forced first out on Chris Wallace. Allan Dykstra hit to left field for the second out. Patrick Pallmeiro ground out to shortstop for the last out to retire the Skeeters in second inning.
Barnstormers, Anderso Feliz hit center field where Denny Almonte caught for first out, then struck out Yusuke Kajimot and caught Brian Cavazos-Galvez looking to strike him out to end the inning. Skeeters Renny Osuna grounded out toward second, Amadeo flied out to left field, and Denny Almonte struck out.
Fourth inning Kent Mattes hit single to start the Barnstormers and stole second with no luck in scoring, Charlie Cutler came to bat to have him fly out to right field for third out of the inning. Skeeters still struggling in the fourth inning with our team coming up short no one able to get on base. Score still 0-0. Bottom of fifth inning Allan Dykstra was hit by ball, coach for Barnstormers came out to talk to umpire about putting Allan on base, he felt player was not hit and should not take base, final word of umpire was Dykstra take first. Patrick Palmeiro came up with a double and an RBI to bring Dykstra home to score. He hit toward centerfield where Brian Cavazos-Galvez had trouble catching the ball.
Top of the 6th inning the Barnstormers started a rally with our pitcher walking Yusuke Kajimoto and the next batter Brian Cavazos-Galvez hitting a homerun out to left field to make a 2 run homerun for the Barnstormers. The score now is 2-1 with the opposing team ahead.
Our pitcher Tim Stauffer caught the first out single handed no glove…wow what a catch. Barnstormers left one man on base as the Skeeters retired the inning with a great catch from our first baseman Delwyn Young to jump and come down and land right on the first base bag for the third out. Barnstormers changed pitchers middle of 7th inning, Marcus Walden. Johan Limonta got on base on balls. Allan Dykstra moved Johan Limonta to third base with a hit down the middle over second base, putting scoring run on third. The next play was a double play for the Barnstormers, forcing an out on second for Dykstra and Patrick Palmeiro on first to retire the Skeeters bottom of 7th inning. Skeeters changed pitchers to have Andrew Johnston start the 8th. He came in and struck Yusuke Kajimoto and next two, Brian Cavazos-Galvez, Kevin Rivers flied out to center field.
Down to the wire now, Skeeters have made another change in their pitching staff, now pitching in the 9th will be Derrick Loop. Coming in Loop got hit with ball but managed to get it to first to get Mike McDade out. Struck out Charlie Cutler out to end the inning. Last chance coming up and the Barnstormers have changed their pitcher, Pete Andrelczyk. Leading off for our Skeeters last inning is Kevin Russo, was not able to connect grounded out to shortstop. Delwyn Young struck out, the next batter Chris Wallace ended with a hit to right field and caught for last out. The Skeeters ended taking 2 out of 6 for the series. Here’s hoping next time we meet Lancaster the Skeeters will sweep.
